Temporary Hosting for Ukrainians

What is it?

For many Ukrainians arriving in Trafford their host family will welcome them with open arms and care for them for as long as is required. Unfortunately though, this isn't always the case. Sadly it is currently possible for refugees to flee the war in their country only to find that the house or room promised is unsuitable or even unsafe for their family.

In these cases it's vital that the council find alternative accommodation as soon as possible. There is not currently a clear process for re-matching sponsors with sponsees, however it is hoped this will become clearer shortly. In the meantime, it's important that we are able to move the families quickly to a safe pre-approved home for a short period of time while another, more suitable host is found for them.

For many people 6 months is a long time to commit to taking a refugee, but it might be possible to support people for a much shorter length of time, from a few days up to a maximum of 1 month. If you have a suitable home with at least 1 spare room, and are willing to be pre-approved, you could be suitable to become a temporary host.

Once checked and approved, you would be matched and contacted as and when an emergency arose to see whether it was possible to take a family for a short time as soon as possible. There would be a small thank you available from the council (amount TBC).

The scheme details are still being finalised and you would be free to withdraw your home from the scheme at any point without obligation. If you are willing to register to be available if required, please complete the form below as soon as possible.

Thank you
